Frequently Asked Questions

COMMON QUESTIONS REGARDING PET CREMATIONS

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ASHES AND CREMAINS?

They are the same. The terms cremains and ashes are often used interchangeably and both refer to the cremated remains of a pet or person.

IS PET CREMATION INCREASING IN POPULARITY?

Yes. Cremation has been increasing in popularity and has been accepted in the funeral industry for decades. It only stands to reason that more people would choose cremation for their pet as well. Cremation is clean, simple and affordable.

HOW DO I KNOW I’M GETTING MY PET’S CREMAINS BACK?

This is one of the most commonly asked questions. Daisy Hill Pet Crematory does not remove any pet from a residence or clinic without proper identification. Your pet will be given a unique numbered identification disc. This stainless steel disc will remain with your pet throughout the cremation process and will be returned to you with your pet’s cremains.

HOW SOON WILL I RECEIVE MY PET’S CREMAINS BACK?

Under normal circumstances, your pet’s cremains are returned within 4 to 6 business days of being received by us.

DO I HAVE TO PURCHASE AN URN?

We provide a Daisy Hill urn with every individual cremation. If you choose, you may select an upgraded urn from our online catalog.

CAN I BRING MY PET TO THE CREMATORY MYSELF?

Yes. Anyone can transport their pet to our crematory. We do ask that you call our office beforehand to ensure someone is available to receive your pet.

WHAT IF MY PET PASSES AWAY AT HOME?

We offer home pick up within the Maryland Suburban area, for an additional fee.

DO YOU WORK WITH MY VETERINARIAN?

We are happy to work with any veterinarian and have relationships with many of the local veterinary offices. If your veterinarian is not currently using Daisy Hill, you may request that they call our office and we will gladly work with them in providing our services.

CAN I SCATTER MY PET’S CREMAINS?

Yes, you have the option of scattering. Many people like to scatter ashes in one of their pet’s favorite areas or possibly a garden, with the property owner’s permission. Remember, however, that scattering is an irreversible decision. If you decide to scatter your pet’s ashes, you may want to keep a small portion of the ashes which can be placed in a small keepsake urn or memorial locket. A place of memorial can be quite comforting, so take special care in making decisions about scattering.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY PET PASSES AWAY ON THE WEEKEND OR IN THE EVENING?

Our hours of operation at our office are Monday – Friday 9am – 4pm, however we do offer after hours and weekend services. Should your pet pass away on the weekend or after hours, please call us at (301) 937-3187. If we are unable to answer, please leave us a message with your information and someone will return your call as soon as possible. Messages are checked regularly during the night and weekends.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO HAVE MY PET CREMATED?

If your veterinarian does not use our services exclusively, you are welcome to call (301) 937-3187 to make all of the arrangements with us directly.
